Western Sovereignty

Was there ever an image that you saw in your past that never left you? An image, a picture, that will always remind you of how real the world is, and when I say real, I mean evil. Evil not requited by sin, but just the evil that mankind, the beast and the animal, are capable of. I remember a few years back when I used Morpheus or Kazaa or one of those Peer to Peer download programs and saw something I will never forget. Let's get it straight, most times I would use these programs secretively to download music or porn, both unfortunately for me, however once I thought, due to some childish deviance, that I should download a beheading video. I think it was right after one of the initial scandals of war or pre-war or post-war, where some militants in the uncivilized east had kidnapped an American civilian and took his head along with America's pride. I don't know what I was expecting. I know now that I never imagined to feel what I felt after I saw what I saw; but I saw it. A blade taking off a man's head. All in the name of belief, ideals, structure, and culture. This is what is war. Nothing more.

Well but this is that of the uncivilized. Right? I mean those of the third world, the religious fundamentalists are the ones that produce those capabilities. I've run into people who speak of America's greatness or how fond some persons are at the bounty of pleasures and supposed liberties our country is capable of producing. But at the cost of what? More important question to ask: at the cost of who?

Today I stumbled upon the story today of how Iraqi women were taken into custody as POW's in Iraq, and then gangraped by American soldiers. Reread that. Not only were they raped and tortured, but it was photographed and filmed by other American soldiers. Get this, over 400 photos were taken of Iraqi women being stripped naked raped, re-raped, and gangraped by American soldiers. Reread again. We've all heard of the Afghani men who were captured and were then tortured by American soldiers. All this was newsworthy, but where does it lie in the Americans' conscience. Where? This is very real. Rape, torture, slander, dehumanization.

Very recent and very shocking is the Aafia Siddiqui scandal. How a supposed Taliban supporter took it upon herself to ascertain American infrastructural information then go into hiding for four years where she suddenly returns in Afghanistan where she is supposedly arrested by American soldiers then she hides behind a curtain grabs the American's rifle (off the ground directly in front of the soldier-officer (and not to mention that this woman weighed about eighty pounds at the time and could barely walk, which I'll refer to later)) and fired at the Americans however missing all her targets and was then retaliated upon where she took a gunshot to the chest (which was precise enough to seriously injure her but not kill her) and then taken back to the States to be tried for an attack on an American presence. Now back to the issue of her weight and the fact that she went missing for four years and how Aafia came back into existence after these four years when a British reporter dug up information about a prisoner in a CIA run detainment center in Afghanistan who was the only woman in the whole center who was under supreme mental duress along with being abused both mentally and sexually. Once that report surfaced, Aafia miraculously/mysteriously surfaces right next to the Americans, and voila, she shoots and misses, and the Americans have found another terrorist.

Remember when that term Apartheid was hot. How South African Apartheid was a disgusting authoritarian rule that ethnically cleansed South Africa. Remember Sudan and Dar fur. That wasn't too long ago. We all remember the spotlight of Western bravado that shone upon those areas. Well what about the "apartheid" or ethnic cleansing or genocide in Israel/Palestine. What about the tax dollars, the deaf ears, the blind eyes that go into those evil processes. A land supposedly of milk and honey, where American money and American soldiers provide the hostility for former Zionists now modern Israelites to cleanse out the lives of the living Palestinians. The Palestine that was the home to Jesus, the Palestine that was the home to millions of Palestinians. Can you see that?

Here's what I'm asking. What does our freedom or our liberty, or our supposed goodness cost us? No no, it doesn't cost us anything; what does it cost others. And don't fall prey to the argument that human atrocities will occur in times of war, because you may deem yourself as right, but then if that's what human, and I mean real breathing, thinking, feeling human, lives are worth, then what you're saying is your freedom is as valuable as the innocence of all the men and women who have had their own freedom taken away in the name of Western Sovereignty.

Be Relentless,
Peace
